The Columbia Center of AI Technology in collaboration with Amazon is pleased to announce its 2025 Call for Research Project Proposals.
Founded in 2020, the Center is a collaborative effort between Columbia and Amazon with a mission to better society through the development and adoption of advanced AI technology contributing to a more secure, connected, creative, sustainable, healthy and equitable humanity. This year, the center will fund multiple research projects through generous support from Amazon.
In the 2025 cycle, the Center will award projects and fellowships in the following research focus areas:
- Applications of Generative AI
- Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) & Foundation Model Improvements
- Efficient Generative AI
- Hardware-software co-design for AI at scale
- Reasoning and inference-time computation
- Multimodal Generative Models: time-series, structure data, sensor data
- Responsible AI: large model alignment, security, privacy, attribution, copyright
- Agentic AI
- Foundations of AI and Machine Learning
- Foundation Model Evaluation

Please note that this year’s CAIT Call for Proposals will be a two-part process, with an abstract submission phase prior to the full proposal submission. Only selected abstracts will be invited to submit a full proposal. Abstracts are due by February 5, 2025. Full proposals are due by March 6, 2025.
